In His Image

Genesis 1:27 says

"So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

When I read a passage of the Bible I like to ask the following questions.

What does it tell me about God?
What does it tell me about Myself?
What difference does it make to how I live my life?

So let's try it.

What does it tell me about God?
He is creative.
He wanted us to be like him.
When you create something you have a certain ownership of it.

What does it tell me about myself?
I am like God.
God created everyone to be like God.
We have value because God created us.

What difference does it make to how I live my life.
If I beleive that I have value because I am created by God then I also must believe the same of others who are created by God.

It then brings to mind this video:

At Youth this year we want to create a space where anyone and everyone feels welcome. Where no one feels alone in a room full of people. This sounds good, but what does it look like in action when we meet at our events or when we encounter each other outside of church activities?

Maybe it means setting aside the feeling of entitlement because you have had a long week and you just want to flake out on the couch with your friends. Instead going across the room to make a connection with someone who is not fitting in. Maybe picking someone for your group that would not be the first one picked. James 4:17 says, "Whoever knows the right thing to do, and fails to do it, for him it is sin."

Oh yeah, don't expect it to be easy. Following God's leading is often not the easy route, but knowing that you are part of God's plan can overshadow that.

If you have a chance answer this question this week:

How does knowing we are all created in God's image, affect your response to people in your everyday life? (home, school)
