Psalms 63

Listening to Matt Chandler sermons have led me to ask the question " Which comes first, Discipline or Desire? In other words, does trying harder to be Christ-like work or does it just lead me to be proud of how well I am doing. When I seek God by just being better and doing the right things, I end up in one of two places. I either (1)am proud of myself for having the self discipline to do it on my own, which just leads to pride and away from God. Or (2)get totally discouraged when I fail repeatedly which leads to hopelessness and the sin of not beleiving that God is Who He is and that he cares for me. Tim Keller in this sermon explains it very well. Can you think of any times where either of these are true in your life? Often it seems we just go on a pendulum back and forth to each extreme and never settle into a true understanding that God is God. When we truly understand who he is, it leads us to a place where we desire to seek him out and truly the desire comes before discipline.

I do not know if my comment went through but here it is again. The book... It's Not About Me... by Max Lucado adresses Who God is like I have never read before. He said that when God created the universe He created it out of nothing. Like.... even the darkness was not there. Can you imagine anything more nothing then that. Anyway, I will give it to you when I am done.
